Common name: tea tree, minuca honey
Family: Myrtaceae
Leaf: small, aromatic, prickly, needle-like leaves, evergreen
Flowers: small, cup-shaped, white flowers which bloom in late spring (June- July), Cultivars can produces red, pink or white flowers
Fruit: woody capsules
Height: 6-10'; Spread: 6-10'
Habit: upright evergreen shrub; Form: rounded
Culture: Winter hardy to USDA zones 9-10. Best in acidic, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates light shade. Younger plants need consistent moist soil, mature plants needing average but consistent moisture. Does not like heavy, poorly drained soils. Best to prune every year after flowering to maintain a good, dense shape.Considered invasive in Hawaii. Not super winter hardy in Vancouver, British Columbia- needs good air drainage and protection.
Uses: Very attractive landscape plant. In containers that can be overwintered indoors.
Origin: New South Wales, Tasmania, New Zealand, Victoria
