Cyclamen hederifolium



Common name: Persian violet
Family: Primulaceae
Leaf: very attractive, ivy-shaped, mottled leaves, with variable colouring usually gray-green with silver and white marbling, appearing in fall only, persisting through winter, and disintegrating in the spring,
Flower: pink or white tinged with pink flowers, up to 2" long with a darker eye and reflexed petals, on flower stalks (one flower per stem), rising up late summer to early fall, followed by the winter foliage, 
Habit: deciduous, tuberous, herbaceous perennial; Form: mounded
Height: 0.25-0.5; Spread: 0.5-1'
Culture: Grown in average, medium moisture soils in part shade. Prefers, moist humusy soils with protection from hot afternoon sun. Plant corms just below the surface in spring. Plants are dormant in summer. Mulch corms in the winter. May successfully self-seed. Hardy in USDA zones 5-9. 
Uses: Planting under trees, so corms do not accidentally get dug up in the summer, fall bloomer, winter greenery/foliage, shaded area of a rock garden. Can be co-planted with summer annuals, as they will be dormant corms at that time (be sure not to accidentally remove corms with summer annuals). containers. Groundcover.
