Common name: hybrid Lenten rose
Family: Renunculaceae
Leaf: evergreen, dark green leaves which are divided into glossy, leather, deeply-lobed, often toothed, lanceolate to elliptic segments
Flowers: single, cup-shaped flowers (typically 2-3"  in diameter) with 5 showy, usually overlappin petals, sometimes in a double flowered form. Large variety of colours, including, shades of white, pink, red, purple, yellow, and sometimes inside spotting. Late winter, early spring. Acolescent.
Habit: bushy perennial; Form: clumping
Height: 1-1.5' Spread: 1-1.5'
Culture: Hardy in USDA zones 4-9. Best grown in humusy, rich, medium moisture, well-drained, alkaline soils in part shade to full shade. Does best in moderate to light shade. Best planted in a somewhat protected location, as protection from cold winter winds. Cut back flowering stems after bloom to promote new foliage growth. if established plants are too densely congested, can be divided in late summer/fall. Take two years to bloom when grown from seed.
Uses: Woodland planting, understory planting, containers, en masse for attractive year-round groudcover foliage.
