Leaf: 'Emerald n' Gold', lustrous, ovate to elliptic, toothed, dark green leaves (1-1.5"), with gold margins. Leaves turn pinky-red in fall and winter with the cold. 'Emerald Gaiety' have rounded glossy deep emerald green leaves (up to 1.75" in diameter with irregular but attractive with cream-white margins. Margins turn pinky tones with the cold.

Habit: dense, woody-stemmed, broadleaf evergreen to semi-evergreen, spreading
Culture: Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to shade. Tolerates a wide range of soils, just not perpetually wet ones. Good tolerance for urban conditions. Spreads by stems. along the ground. Can also be trained to go up trellises, walls etc.
Uses:A good groundcover in sunny or shady location. Can be effective as a low hedge. border. With support, it can also climb.On a slope as erosion control. Sometimes trained into a small decorative 'tree'.
