Cistus x hybridus
Common name: white rock rose
Family: Cistaceae
Leaf: opposite, ovate-lanceolate leaves that are dark grey-matte green and crinkly/undulating margins
Flower: up to 1.5" wide, pure white, with bright yellow stamens, June
Habit: evergreen woody shrub; Form: mounded
Height: 2-4'; Spread: 4-5'
Culture: Plant in full sun, in hot areas, but can also tolerate light shade. Once established it can be drought tolerant, and a good candidate for xeriscaping. Plant in well-drained, sandy soils. Does not do well in organically-rich soils or soils prone to standing waters. Tolerates maritime exposure (salt in the air). prune after flowering, if pruning is neglected, it can get quite leggy after a few years. You cannot prune it hard however, as it does not grow back from older wood, so it is best to prune on younger wood. Winter hardy down to USDA zones 7-10.
Uses: Great for coastal gardens, slopes, low growing groundcover, specimen, maritime garden
Origin: Europe, S Europe
