Fruit: showy clusters of globose berries, that ripen to white in late summer, early autumn, persisting on the branches throughout winter. Poisonous.

Culture: Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Best fruit production happens in full sun. Adaptive to a wide range of soils including poor, lean soils. Prune as desired for shape in late winter early spring. Can be suckering. Hardy in USDA zones 3-7.
Uses: Shrub border, screen, hedge. Naturalized in woodland areas. Suckering habit may make it useful for erosion control on slopes or banks.
