Camellia sasanqua 'Setsugekka'
Common name: Setsugekka camellia
Family: Theaceae
Leaf: oval, glossy, dark green leaves, with a slight fold along the midrib, serrated/crenate margins
Flowers: Showy, white, semi-double, borne singly, with yolk-yellow showy stamens, with ruffled petal edges. Blooming in autumn.
Habit: dense, semi-weeping habit; Form: irregular, rounded-mounded
Height: up to 10'; Spread: up to 5'
Culture: Hardy in USDA zones 7-10. Grows best in light and open shade or in full sun. Avoid a location with the hottest mid-day sun. If in too much shade, flowering is greatly reduced. Camellias prefer a rich, well-drained soil with regular watering during dry weather, especially in late summer to ensure a good bud set for winter bloom. Does well in a sheltered location near the house to help protect open flowers from early frosts.
Uses: in a sheltered location, border, espaliered, specimen, privacy screen, specimen
Origin: China and Japan, 'Setsugekka' is of garden origin
