Grevillea victoriae
Common name: royal grevillea
Family: Proteaceae
Leaf: obovate to ovate leaves, gray-ish leaves, finely pubescent on underside with stems gray-ish as well
Flowers: pendant clusters of red or orange flowers beginning to flower in early autumn, continues through winter, with 3" long clusters of pendulous, vivid orange flowers that scroll open from orange-pink-tinted buds. Hummingbirds love it.
Height: 6-8'; Form: up to 4' wide
Habit: evergreen shrub; Form: mounded
Culture: Hardy in USDA zones 8a-10b. Best planted in hot, sunny locations. Best planted in average/lean/poor soils, that are well drained. Appreciates the occasional watering during very dry summer months, otherwise they are mostly drought tolerant. Keep in mind, that keeping water to a minimum does actually increase their overall hardiness and vigour, so those watering should be kept to a minimum. For the rest of the year, even, medium moisture is a good idea. Pruning helps to produce a smaller denser plant if this is desired.
Uses: in a mixed perennial border, solo specimen
Origin: Australia
